What generation of power2max do I got?
Power2max is in its 3rd generation of spider based powermeters.
Here some facts that may help to identify your system.
1st Generation, called “Classic”
Triangular battery compartment
available in:
– BCD 110 and 130mm 5-bolt for Road
– BCD 104/64 for MTB
2nd Generation, called “Type S”
Integrated battery compartment parallel to the crankarm
available in:
– BCD 110 and 130mm 5-bolt for Road
– BCD 144mm 5-bolt for Track
– BCD 110/60 (Double) and 104mm (Single) for MTB
3rd Generation, called “NG”
Integrated battery compartment or rechargeable battery
available in:
– BCD 110 for Shimano 4-bolt,
– BCD 110 and 130mm 5-bolt for Road
– BCD 144mm 5-bolt for Track
– BCD 96/68, 104/64mm (Double) and

What can I do, if my powermeter got drop outs or is not working properly?
Check following steps first…
→ check powermeter for mechanical damages (cracks, massive scratches, deformation, corrosion, …)
→ check battery (state and direction) and maybe replace with a new CR2450 (Renata CR2450N recommended)
→ check powermeter’s LED state (inside battery compartment)
→ delete all sensor devices from bike computer
→ check bike computer for latest firmware update
→ reset bike computer to factory defaults
→ try with a second/different bike computer (if possible, record parallel / at the same time)If there is still an issue…
→ contact power2max support and …
→ forward two photos from your powermeter’s open battery compartment → one without installed battery and one with installed battery
→ (opt.) forward a *.FIT or *.TCX file with exact timestamp of the issue (Do NOT forward links or screenshots!) -
What can I do, if battery lifetime is not as expected?
Check following steps first…
→ check powermeter for mechanical damages (cracks, massive scratches, deformation, corrosion, …)
→ check battery (state and direction) and maybe replace with a new CR2450 (Renata CR2450N recommended)
→ check powermeter’s LED state (inside battery compartment)If there is still an issue…

What can I do, if I see implausible values on my bike computer?
Important!
Comparing values between two riders or different types of powermeters is not practical.
Best for testing would be a high brand direct mount indoor trainer (e.g. Wahoo Kickr, Elite Direto, … )
Make sure powermeter AND indoor trainer was calibrated correctly.Check following steps first…
→ check powermeter for mechanical damages (cracks, massive scratches, deformation, corrosion, …)
→ check battery (state and direction) and maybe replace with a new CR2450 (Renata CR2450N recommended)
→ check powermeter’s LED state (inside battery compartment)
→ make sure powermeter, crank set, chain ring installation is correct → find more details in our “Downloads” area
→ for “low” power readings, perform “Calibration” with your bike computer → find more details in Calibration” tab
→ delete all sensor devices from bike computer
→ check bike computer for latest firmware update
→ reset bike computer to factory defaults

What battery do I need for my "Classic" powermeter?
For our 1st Gen. powermeters, we do recommend to use Renata CR2450N coin cell batteries.
CR2450 batteries from other brand could work too, but there are some differences, so some got contact issues and will not work reliable.
… some additional CR2450 batteries, which should work also:
→ Sony, VARTA, Energizer
… some CR2450 batteries, which will NOT work:
→ Duracell, Ansmann

How to "Hard Reset" my NG / NGeco?
“Hard Reset” means, powermeter will get re-started and re-initialized.
This procedure can solve “simple” issues with an easy step.“Hard Reset” for NGeco / PowerBox (re-placeable battery)
→ remove battery first
→ install battery in wrong direction (battery’s “+” to powermeter’s “-“)
→ remove battery again
→ install battery in correct direction (battery’s “+” to powermeter’s “+”)“Hard Reset” for NG (re-chargeable battery)
→ switch “OFF” powermeter: Put in a powered Micro-USB cable for just one second and pull it out (make sure Micro-USB plug is in correct orientation)
→ switch “ON” powermeter: Put in a powered Micro-USB cable for 3…5 seconds (LED should flash green) and pull it out again -
What means LED signalization on my 3rd Gen. power2max powermeter?
Signalization after installing battery (NGeco) or re-start (NG):

What powermeters are compatible with the power2max App?
You can use power2max App with all 3rd Gen. power2max powermeters. (incl. NG, NGeco, PowerBox, Cannondale OEM from serial SN045000)
Power2max App is NOT compatible with Classic (1st Gen.) and Type S (2nd Gen.)! No Bluetooth available.

What means Calibration?
“Calibration” is like “Tare” function of a kitchen scale, so it sets a “clean” zero value without any parasite influences.
There are two different options…- “Auto-Zero”
Happens automatically, if rider stops pedaling for a few seconds and some additional parameters are “ok”. - “Manual Zero”
Is nearly the same like “Auto-Zero” but have to be initiated manually.
Sometimes calibration is called “zeroing” or “offset compensation”, but means the same.
All power2max spider based powermeters (since Gen. 1) got “Manual Zero” and “Auto-Zero” ex works.
“Auto-Zero” is enabled (default) for all generations of spider based Road and MTB powermeters.
Important: → For Track it’s disabled as default.Since 3rd Gen., “Auto-Zero” state can get changed via power2max App.

What is "Auto-Zero"?
“Auto-Zero” is a mechanism to avoid external parasite influences, which positively affects reliability measured power values.
It happens automatically, if rider stops pedaling for a few seconds and some additional parameters are “ok”.
As long as “Auto-Zero” is enabled, manual zeroing before every ride is not necessary.
Important: → For Track powermeters “Auto-Zero” is disabled ex works, so we do recommend manual zeroing.

What is "Calibration" / "Zero Offset" in my head unit or power2max app?
“Calibration” and “Zero Offset” are different terms for the same thing and it’s nearly similar to “Auto-Zero“, but it will not happen automatically.
It’s a “Manual Zero“, you can trigger in 2 or maybe 3 different ways (depends on the generation of powermeter you got)- Re-install battery or switch rechargeable powermeter off and on again
- Run “Calibration” procedure from your head unit / bike computer or 3rd party app
- Connect to power2max app → “Change Settings” → “Zero Offset” (for 3rd Gen. powermeters only)
